Options for getting General Health Advice

NHS Resources

Log in to your NHS account through your computer or laptop or use the NHS App on a mobile device to access symptom checkers, appointment bookings, and access to your health records.

Other online health services such as the NHS Health  A-Z (www.nhs.uk/conditions) can offer a point of reference to check out conditions, symptoms and treatments, including what to do and when to get help.

NHS 111 (contact them online or by calling 111) offers guidance on non-emergency medical issues and can tell you whether you need to see a GP, go to A&E, or manage at home.

Pharmacies

Your local pharmacy can advise on minor illnesses like colds, sore throats, rashes, stomach upsets, etc.

Community SWITCH – an online directory of organisations and groups that can help you to manage your health and wellbeing.  Visit www.communityswitch.org. to find the support you need to

Samaritans – call 116 123 for emotional support.

The Our Dorset library of digital healthcare tools and technologies to enable the people of Dorset to confidently manage their health, mental health, wellbeing and long-term conditions.

 Information about NHS Health Checks

If you are a patient between the ages of 40 and 74, you will be invited for a free NHS Health Check every five years.  Read more on the NHS website by following this link>>

You may also ask for an NHS Health Check if you are in this age group, do not have any other conditions, i.e. stroke, diabetes, coronary heart disease and have not had an NHS Health Check in the last five years.

Also, anyone aged 14 or over on our learning disability register can have a free annual health check once a year.  Patients on our learning disability register will be invited, but we will welcome requests for a health check on request.  For more information about annual health checks to those with learning disabilities, please visit the NHS website here>>
